What is Organic India Bowelcare?

Organic India Bowelcare is a daily nutritional supplement intended to provide efficient bowel movements. The label directs consumers to use the product when stool is too hard or too loose, but nowhere is the product marketed specifically to provide treatment or relief for constipation. Instead, the product appears to be intended to cleanse the intestinal walls, remove toxins and wastes through efficient bowel movements, and to improve peristalsis (the muscular contraction of the intestines).

Formula

Organic India Bowelcare includes the following three active ingredients, marketed to be of Indian origin and popular in that part of the world:

  • Organic Bael leaf (Aegle marmelos) – 300mg
  • Organic Chandrashoor seed (Lepidium sativum) – 50mg
  • Organic Psyllium husk (Plantago ovato) – 25mg

The only other ingredient listed is vegetable cellulose, which comprises the capsule.

Directions

The bottle includes the directions to take one capsule daily with food and water. We are confused as to the daily recommended usage, as the bottle contains directions that one capsule should be taken per day, and yet the serving size is two capsules. User-reported answers on Amazon to questions concerning use varied widely, with some people even reporting taking 2 tablets before each meal.

Price

Organic India Bowelcare is available on the manufacturer’s website at a cost of $22.99 for a bottle of 90 capsules, which works out to $0.26 per capsule. The product is also available on Amazon for a cost of $13.84 per bottle, or $0.15 per capsule. With a serving size of 2 capsules per day, the product would last approximately 45 days, though it is generally recommended that serious bowel irregularity be addressed by a physician after symptoms present for five days or more.

Possible Side Effects

The manufacturer’s website does not list any possible side effects, and the Bael leaf and English Water Cress that comprises 350mg of the 400mg of active ingredients seem to be generally free from side effects. However, psyllium husk is a serious anti-constipation drug and should be treated with care. Overdose or improper use of this drug has the potential to cause negative side effects. When used responsibly, there is evidence to suggest that it is safe and effective, but care should be taken.

Manufacturer’s Commitment

Organic India Bowelcare comes with no manufacturer commitment of any sort.

The Bottom Line

Organic India Bowelcare appears to be a trustworthy solution for people with bowel irregularities. With four total ingredients, it is an uncomplicated product, which is a welcome relief in the world of supplements. At the time of this review, there were about 70 reviews of the product on Amazon, around two-thirds of which were very positive. Other reviews included remarks on the product’s ineffectiveness or unexpected side effects. As with all digestive issues, there is great potential for personal variation so it is important not to place too much stock on any individual review. The product is priced in an affordable range, and we find no major red flags for consumers to watch out for. Our only reservation in recommending the product is its limited scope: while the product does address bowel health in a holistic fashion, it does not focus on immediate constipation relief. Many similar products on the market will provide both at a comparable price.
